2. What we collect
Depending on how you interact with us (our websites, SMS, voice/video, email, or in-store), we may collect:
- Contact details — name, email address, phone number.
- Travel preferences — destinations, dates, party size, budget hints you choose to share.
- Communications — messages you send to Marco, transcripts where needed to provide support or improve service (see Section 6).
- Verification data — one-time codes sent to your phone to confirm identity before video or sensitive actions.
- Technical data — IP address, device type, browser, approximate region, cookies or similar technologies as described in Section 5.
3. Why we use personal information
- To provide travel information, quotes, and bookings you request.
- To operate Marco and related channels (e.g. SMS or video links) safely and securely.
- To verify identity, prevent fraud, and protect our systems.
- To comply with law and respond to lawful requests.
- With your consent where required, to send helpful updates or marketing; you may withdraw consent subject to legal exceptions.
4. Legal bases (where applicable)
Where the law requires a “legal basis” (for example in the EU/UK), we rely on contract (to arrange travel you request), legitimate interests (to secure and improve our services), consent (for optional marketing or non-essential cookies), and legal obligation where we must retain or disclose information.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
Our sites may use cookies or local storage to remember preferences, maintain sessions, measure performance, and understand aggregate usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Essential cookies may be required for security and core features (e.g. login or verification flows).
6. AI and automated processing
Marco uses automated systems to generate responses. Outputs are assistive and may be imperfect. Human staff remain available for bookings and complex itineraries. We may review aggregated or redacted interaction data to improve quality and safety; we do not sell your personal chats.
7. Service providers
We use trusted processors for hosting, messaging (e.g. SMS), video, analytics, email, and customer relationship tools. They may process data only on our instructions and under contractual safeguards. Some providers may be located outside Canada; where required, we use appropriate transfer mechanisms.
8. Retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including legal, tax, and dispute resolution requirements. Booking records may be retained longer than casual chat transcripts. You may ask us about retention for your specific case.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise rights, contact sales@elgintravel.ca. You may also complain to a supervisory authority where applicable.
10. Children
Our services are directed to adults planning travel. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the age required in your jurisdiction) without parental consent. Contact us if you believe a child has provided data.
11. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure; please use unique passwords and protect your devices.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes may require additional notice where the law says so.
